SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC announced on Wednesday the club had acquired defender Callum Montgomery on loan from Major League Soccer’s Minnesota United FC, pending league and federation approval.

“Callum is a player we’re very excited to bring to San Diego and we’re grateful to Minnesota United for allowing him to come here on loan,” said SD Loyal EVP of Soccer Operations and Manager Landon Donovan. “He has great leadership qualities, he immediately fits in with the team and he’s an excellent passer. He will help us a lot on and off the field.”

Montgomery was selected with the No. 4 pick of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas, and that season played a notable role in helping North Texas SC claim the USL League One title in the league’s inaugural season.

In 2020, the 24-year-old joined San Antonio FC on loan from FC Dallas where he made nine appearances and scored two goals while helping SAFC return to the USL Championship Playoffs. This past offseason, Minnesota acquired Montgomery from FC Dallas in exchange for a Fourth Round pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.
