Commemorating the Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan in 1969, LGBTQ Pride Month is celebrated each June in the United States and around the world in support of equality for members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer community. As part of those celebrations, numerous professional sports clubs across the country have hosted Pride Nights, partnering with local LGBTQ+ charitable organizations with the aim of making venues and games a welcome place for all.
In the five decades since the Uprising, significant strides have been made in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality, but work continues to create a more equal and just society. The United Soccer League and its partners recently announced the Forever Proud Project, created to provide a safe, inclusive space for all fans, players, coaches, and employees.
In addition, this year 17 teams in the USL Championship have announced plans and partnerships for Pride Night contests this season. Here’s a full list, and the organizations you can consider offering your support to in the coming weeks.
