Birmingham’s Bruno Lapa voted Player of the Week after leading side to two victories

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week Presented by Cleer Audio for Week 6 of the 2021 regular season on Tuesday, with Birmingham Legion FC’s Bruno Lapa voted Player of the Week after he scored the game-winning goal in the side’s two victories over the week, which propelled Legion FC to the top of the Championship’s Central Division to close the month.

A 2020 Championship All-League selection in his first professional season last year, Lapa found his form over the past week of action. He both began and finished the move that gave Birmingham a 1-0 victory on Wednesday night against OKC Energy FC and then followed that up with a stoppage-time penalty kick that earned a 1-0 win against Atlanta United 2 on Sunday, a win that snapped Atlanta’s four-game undefeated run.

Lapa earned 53 percent of the ballot for his performances to earn the award. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s Alex Dixon finished second on 16 percent after recording a goal and assist in his side’s 3-0 victory on the road against the New York Red Bulls II last Friday night.
