SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Republic FC announced on Monday the club had acquired former U.S. Youth International defender Chris Gloster on loan from Major League Soccer’s New York City FC pending league and federation approval.

“We are excited to welcome a player of Chris’ caliber into our squad,” said Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant. “Chris brings a two-way threat to the left side of the field for us and will be valuable as we enter a busy stretch of the season.”

Gloster joined NYCFC this March after playing in Europe for Hannover 96 II and PSV Eindhoven’s Jong PSV reserve squad. He has an extensive history within the United States youth national team program, including helping lead the U.S. to the quarterfinals of the 2019 U-20 World Cup and 2017 U-17 World Cup.

The 20-year-old has appeared previously in the Championship, having competed for the New York Red Bulls II as a USL Academy signing in 2016 before moving overseas to turn professional. Gloster will be available for Republic FC’s next match on Wednesday, when the side hosts Oakland Roots SC at Heart Health Park.
