SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC will host its home opener on Saturday night as it welcomes Las Vegas Lights FC to Torero Stadium with both teams looking to pick up their first victory of the 2021 season. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET.

@SanDiegoLoyal (0-4-0, 0pts) suffered its fourth consecutive loss of the season last Saturday night as a late thunderbolt by Jack Blake couldn’t salvage a result in a 2-1 defeat to Louisville City FC at Lynn Family Stadium. SD Loyal’s main challenges have come defensively, however, where the side has conceded 10 goals in its first four games. The team also sits with the second-highest Expected Goals Against total in the Championship according to American Soccer Analysis at 9.80xGA, with goalkeeper Trey Muse currently leading the league with 19 saves in four appearances. San Diego will be hoping a return home can cure some of those ills, while the side posted an undefeated record against Las Vegas last season, going 1-0-2 in their three meetings.

@LVLightsFC (0-3-0, 0pts) has also struggled defensively in the early going, conceding 13 times in its first three games to sit below San Diego in the Pacific Division standings. Last Saturday night saw Lights FC suffer a 5-1 defeat to Phoenix Rising FC in which it allowed 41 total shots and 20 shots on target, and only a Championship-record single-game performance by goalkeeper Alex Rando – who had 15 saves in his professional debut – kept the final margin of victory being higher. Lights FC has seen bright attacking performances from Cal Jennings on loan from Los Angeles FC, but Head Coach Steve Cherundolo will be hoping for a tighter overall display from his side.
