SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC and Rio Grande Valley FC will square off in the second South Texas Derby of the season on Saturday night with two points separating the sides at the top of the Mountain Division. Kickoff at Toyota Field is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.

@SanAntonioFC (2-1-1, 7pts) picked up its second win of the season last Saturday night as it earned a 2-1 win against Birmingham Legion FC before its home fans. A goal just under a minute into the contest by Santiago Patino was bookended by Jordan Perruzza’s first goal for the club as he returned on loan from Toronto FC to provide the insurance marker before Birmingham scored late to make the game interesting. Patino’s goal was his fifth of the season, which puts him first in the Championship, and the contest also saw the return to the starting lineup of 2020 Championship Young Player of the Year Finalist Jose Gallegos after an injury had sidelined him early in the campaign. San Antonio has won three of the past six meetings between the clubs on home turf, losing just once, and will be hoping to build on that record on Saturday night.

@RGVFC (3-1-0, 9pts) fell to its first loss of the season in its most recent outing as an early goal led to a 1-0 defeat against El Paso Locomotive FC at Southwest University Park. The Toros had difficulty breaking down El Paso’s defense throughout the night and recorded only one shot on goal for the contest as they were held scoreless for the first time this season. RGVFC will be without forward Elvis Amoh on Saturday after he was sent off for two cautionable offenses against Locomotive FC, but the Toros will be hoping for a repeat performance of their 2-1 victory when these sides first met on May 16 at H-E-B Park. On that occasion goals by Wan Kuzain and Christian Sorto proved enough to earn the side victory, while Tyler Deric and his defense will be looking to record their third shutout of the season after conceding a goal in each of the past two contests.
