Independence will try to continue winning streak in second trip to Florida this season

Miami FC's Ariel Martinez will try to find the net against Charlotte Independence goalkeeper Brandon Miller when the teams square off for the first time this season on Saturday night.

MIAMI – The Charlotte Independence will try to build on their two-game winning streak when they visit Miami FC on Saturday night at FIU Stadium as the hosts try to rebound from defeat last time out. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

@TheMiamiFC (2-2-0, 6pts) suffered its second defeat of the season last Saturday night as it fell 2-1 to in-state rival the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium. In an engaging contest, Billy Forbes drew the visitor’s level in the first half after Miami had gone behind early, but the Rowdies pulled out a victory in the second half. Miami continued to look sharp creatively in the attacking third in Tampa Bay, but once again was unable to apply a consistent finishing touch. The side currently sits with three goals overall this season but ranks 11th in the Championship in Expected Goals as a team at 5.76xG, an illustration that the chances have been there but the finishing has not so far.

The @Independence (2-1-0, 6pts) edged ahead of Miami in the Atlantic Division standings thanks to a 1-0 victory last Saturday night on the road against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC as Irvin Parra scored his third goal of the campaign. The result saw goalkeeper Brandon Miller record his second consecutive shutout this season and move to 40 career regular-season shutouts, making him only the third goalkeeper in the Championship to reach that mark in the league’s history. Charlotte’s visit to Miami is its last in a four-game road trip to start the season before the club opens its new home at Memorial Stadium next weekend. The visitors will be hoping for a turnaround from last season’s visit to South Florida, when Miami took a 2-1 victory in the first meeting between the clubs.
