The LIPAFC returns for its first edition of 2021 with Indy looking to snap LouCity’s undefeated run

Louisville City FC's Tyler Gibson is set to face his former club on Saturday night as Indy Eleven and Manuel Arteaga arrive for the first edition of the LIPAFC in 2021.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest returns for the 2021 USL Championship season on Saturday night as Louisville City FC and Indy Eleven both look to build on victories in their most recent outings. Kickoff at Lynn Family Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

@LouCityFC (2-0-1, 7pts) moved within two points of first place in the Central Division last Saturday night as Cameron Lancaster and Kyle Greig each scored their first goals of the season in a 2-1 win against San Diego Loyal SC to continue the club’s undefeated start. Greig’s goal with two minutes remaining marked the veteran forward’s debut for the club with his 58th regular-season tally of his career in the Championship, which keeps him in fifth place all-time. Saturday’s game will likely see former Indy Eleven midfielder Tyler Gibson face off against his former club for the first time, while the hosts are set to be without defender Jonathan Gomez after his call-up to train with Mexico’s Men’s National Team on Monday. Louisville has held the upper hand on Indy since the first league meeting between the clubs in 2018 – the only time Indy has claimed victory – and has now run its undefeated streak in the series to 10 games across the regular season and playoffs after winning three of the four meetings a season ago.

@IndyEleven (2-1-0, 6pts) returns to the winner’s column last Saturday night as it took a 2-0 victory against Sporting Kansas City on goals by Jordan Hamilton and Manuel Arteaga. The star of the show, however, was Gordon Wild, who was named to the Championship’s Team of the Week after recording assists on both goals and recording six key passes overall to help guide the team to victory. Wild isn’t the lone newcomer to have impressed with his playmaking so far, with Nicky Law sitting tied for second in the Championship with 11 key passes, and that creativity will be essential if the Boys in Blue are to find their first win in the series in more than three years.
