Hamilton, Arteaga find net in 2-0 victory for hosts at Michael A. Carroll Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of second-half goals by Jordan Hamilton and Manuel Arteaga sent Indy Eleven to a 2-0 victory against Sporting Kansas City II on Saturday night for the host’s first victory at Michael A. Carroll Stadium this season.

The hosts put an early shot on target from outside the penalty area by Hamilton, but Indy’s first good look on goal came in the 24th minute as a free kick from the left by Gordon Wild found Neveal Hackshaw at the back post for a header that went just wide of the left upright. Wild also went close on the half-hour mark from another set piece, with his shot from 25 yards toward the top-left corner being beautifully saved by SKC II goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh.

Wild then struck the woodwork four minutes later as he drove in from the right off a short corner and fired a low shot that hit the outside of the right post and went behind, but early in the second half the hosts found the breakthrough as Wild’s corner kick from the left was headed home by Hamilton for his first goal for the Boys in Blue.

Indy added to its lead with 25 minutes to go as Wild was again involved, slipping a pass to Arteaga in the left side of the penalty area that the Venezuelan fired low off the right post and into the back of the net. Sporting tried to find a way back into the game but a free kick by Ropapa Mensah with 16 minutes to go was comfortably saved by Indy’s Jordan Farr for one of the visitors’ two shots on goal of the game.

Arteaga almost notched his second of the night three minutes later as he controlled a cross from the left by Patrick Seagrist and fired a first-time volley that McIntosh tipped over the crossbar. The Venezuelan then had a big chance with six minutes to go as Nick Moon picked him out unmarked with a cross from the right, only for his shot to be scuffed wide of the right post, but it proved academic as Indy closed out a comfortable victory.
