CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Battery and New York Red Bulls II will square off for the second time this season on Sunday afternoon as the hosts look to rebound from a defeat in their home opener at Patriots Point. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.

The @Chas_Battery (0-1-1, 1pt) fell for the first time on home turf in their history to the Charlotte Independence on May 14 as the visitors took a 3-0 victory behind two goals from Irvin Parra. The loss was only the seventh at home by the Battery since the start of the 2018 season, during which time Charleston has won 24 of 42 home regular-season contests. Returning to that type of form will be the aim for Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser’s side, which last went winless in its opening two games of the season in 2014, in that instance earning a pair of draws against Orlando City SC and the Richmond Kickers.

@NYRBII (1-2-1, 4pts) enters having claimed its first win of the season on Tuesday night after defeating Loudoun United FC 2-1 at Segra Field. The Red Bulls II got goals by Omar Sowe and Mandela Egbo from the penalty spot in their second consecutive away win against Loudoun. New York has never lost in seven previous games in Charleston, going 3-0-4 all-time including a pair of postseason victories in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. If it can claim victory on Sunday afternoon, the side would match its away victories total from the 2020 season and further boost its position in the Atlantic Division standings.
