Interconference matchup brings together playoffs contenders at Toyota Field

San Antonio FC's Sam Gleadle and Birmingham Legion FC's Jonathan Dean are set to feature as their sides meet in an interconference matchup on Saturday night at Toyota Field.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC and Birmingham Legion FC will meet for the first time on Saturday night in an interconference matchup at Toyota Field that sees the hosts looking to rebound from its first defeat of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.

@SanAntonioFC (1-1-1, 4pts) suffered a 2-1 defeat to Mountain Division and South Texas Derby rival Rio Grande Valley FC last Sunday night as a second-half goal by Santiago Patino couldn’t spark a comeback for the visitors at H-E-B Park. SAFC will have reinforcements on Saturday as it looks to boost its attack, with Canadian forward Jordan Perruzza back with the club on loan from Toronto FC after scoring three goals in five regular-season games in 2020. The hosts will also debut their new ‘Viva Kits’ which pay homage to the city’s cultural history.

@BHMLegion (1-1-1, 4pts) has been trending in the opposite direction to San Diego, and took a 1-0 victory in its home opener last Saturday afternoon at Legion Stadium which saw a club-record 10,177 fans in attendance. Neco Brett’s second goal of the season proved the difference for Legion FC, which recorded 10 shots on goal in Junior Flemmings’ first game for the club since his offseason arrival. Birmingham will be hoping it can convert more chances in San Antonio in what could be an entertaining, attacking contest.
