OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Wednesday that Interim Head Coach Jordan Ferrell would remain the team’s Head Coach for the duration of the 2021 USL Championship season while continuing in his role as Technical Director.

“Jordan lives the Roots culture and he had a fundamental role in building this season’s squad,” said Roots Chair Steven Aldrich. “This decision was made to minimize uncertainty for our players, and keep the focus on winning matches. We will have discussions with many candidates for the Head Coach role and intend to announce that choice following the 2021 season.”

“Coaching is what I love to do,” said Ferrell. “I am also all about building culture through football and there is no better place to do that than in Oakland, where so many cultures come together in such a unique way. I am excited about the inaugural USL season in front of us and look forward to continuing in the Technical Director role for the club, where I can have a long-term impact on the Roots’ footballing identity and processes.”

The search for a Head Coach to take charge of Oakland Roots in 2022 is underway with applications being received from, and outreach being made to, coaches around the world.
