Las Vegas Adds Danny Trejo Ahead of Season Opener

Former Bold FC winger Julian Gaines joins 2021 SuperDraft selection at Lights FC

LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Lights FC announced on Monday the club had signed forward Danny Trejo and winger Julian Gaines ahead of the club’s season opener on Wednesday night against the LA Galaxy II. Trejo joins the club after being selected in the First Round of the 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Los Angeles FC, while 18-year-old Gaines joins the professional ranks having previously competed as a USL Academy signing for Championship side Austin Bold FC.

Trejo was the No. 14 pick in the 2021 SuperDraft after a stellar career at Cal State University – Northridge that saw him record 26 goals and 15 assists in 57 appearances. In his junior season in 2019, Trejo was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Year as he recorded nine goals and seven assists to finished tied for the conference lead in both categories and earned selection to the Big West All-Conference First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Western Region Second Team.

Gaines has previously made one appearance in the Championship after signing with Bold FC as a 16-year-old during the 2019 season. A native of Austin, Texas, Gaines has previously competed with the United States U-15 and U-17 Men’s National Teams after a sterling youth career at Austin club Lonestar SC.

Lights FC is set to visit the LA Galaxy II on Wednesday night, with kickoff set for 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+. The club’s home opener is scheduled for Saturday, June 5 at 10:30 p.m. ET against the Tacoma Defiance.
