Tucker Bone scores on Republic FC debut in 1-0 win against Galaxy II

CARSON, Calif. – Tucker Bone scored a late winner in his debut for Sacramento Republic FC to send the visitors to a 1-0 victory against the LA Galaxy II on Friday night at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Sacramento grabbed what proved to be the winning goal with eight minutes to go when Dariusz Formella smartly controlled after a high ball to the edge of the penalty area deflected to him. The Polish forward quickly picked out Shannon Gomez breaking into the right side of the penalty area, and the Trinidad & Tobago international centered for Bone – on as a second-half substitute – to tap home from eight yards out.

Los Dos had a late chance to equalize three minutes later as Jorge Hernandez sent a free kick from 25 yards over the crossbar, but the hosts were left to rue the chances they had missed to take the lead in a first half in which they held the upper hand. The Galaxy II recorded the first shot of the game after only 90 seconds as Kai Koreniuk forced a low save from Republic FC goalkeeper Tomas Gomez, the first of six shots to Sacramento’s none in the opening 45 minutes.

Gomez kept Republic FC level, however, with his best save of the half coming in the 36th minute as Preston Judd fired a low shot toward the right corner of the net that Sacramento’s shot-stopper was able to turn onto the upright. That save proved key as Sacramento controlled much more of the second half before Bone earned his side a valuable opening victory against its Pacific Division rival.
