HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford Athletic announced on Monday it had signed forward Walmer Martinez, pending league and federation approval. Martinez joins Hartford after impressing during the club’s preseason training, having previously been part of the Athletic’s Invitational Combine earlier this offseason.
“It is always a pleasure to offer a player a pro contract. Walmer has earned the right to be here,” said Hartford Athletic Head Coach Harry Watling. “He is an excellent finisher and versatile player, able to play across the whole front line. His energy and passion match mine as the Head Coach.”
Martinez competed collegiately for Cal State-Monterey Bay. In his senior season in 2019, he scored 13 goals, second-most in California Collegiate Athletic Association. Despite only playing two seasons with the Otters, he finished his career second in program history in assists (16), and fifth all-time in goals (17).
Additionally, Martinez recorded four goals in 12 appearances for USL League Two side Santa Cruz Breakers FC during the 2018 season, and in 2019 competed for the Des Moines Menace.
