CHULA VISTA, Calif. – A late goal by Devon Sandoval gave New Mexico United a 2-1 victory against San Diego Loyal SC on Saturday afternoon in a preseason matchup at the Chula Vista Elite Athletic Training Center.

New Mexico took the lead in the 27th minute when Amando Moreno fired home a shot from the top of the penalty area, and the visitors held their lead for the remainder of the first half. SD Loyal threatened to level in the second half as Tumi Moshobane fired a shot on target before Corey Hertzog and Alejandro Guido also had chances.

San Diego answered in the 64th minute, however, as Charlie Adams floated a cross from the left side that found Grant Stoneman at the far post for a diving headed finish. New Mexico forced a good save from San Diego goalkeeper Trey Muse six minutes later, one of a handful of saves for the young shot-stopper. But with four minutes to go, Sandoval struck as he turned home a finish off a deflection to send United home with a win.
