ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Monday that midfielder Micheal Azira had been selected by Uganda for its final two games of Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying later this month.
The Cranes currently sit in second place in Group B, one point behind Burkina Faso and three points ahead of Malawi, with the top two teams advancing to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to be held this summer in Cameroon. Uganda faces Burkina Faso on Wednesday, March 24th with a chance to move into first place in the group and will then take on Malawi to complete qualifying on Monday, March 29th.
Azira, who signed with United this offseason after most recently competing with Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire FC, has previously represented his country 12 times, including matches in the African Cup of Nations, Cup of Nations qualifiers, the African Cup and International Friendlies.
