MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Monday it had acquired midfielder Mitch Guitar via transfer from fellow Championship club Indy Eleven. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Guitar signed with Indy during the 2020 USL Championship season. This past January, he was selected in the third round of the 2021 MLS SuperDraft by Chicago Fire FC, which holds his Major League Soccer rights.

“Mitch is a player we identified during his college career as having the qualities necessary to succeed at this level,” said Memphis 901 FC Sporting Director Tim Horward. “He has a relentless engine in midfield and makes the players around him better.”

Guitar becomes the second Wisconsin alum on Memphis’s roster as he joins fellow badger Mark Segbers. The versatile midfielder scored two goals and tallied one assist over 58 matches with Wisconsin. He played a critical role in the Badger’s lineup starting every match his sophomore and junior seasons, helping the team capture the Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2017. In 2018, he was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team for his conference play. He missed the 2019 season due to injury.
