MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Thursday it had re-signed defender Zach Carroll ahead of the 2021 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval.

“Bringing Zach back was always a priority for us heading in to the 2021 season,” said 901 FC Sporting Director Tim Howard. “He helped anchor the backline last year and will bring a wealth of experience and leadership back to the team. His return will be key as we continue building our roster for the season.”

Carroll made 13 appearances and started 11 matches during the 2020 Championship season. In his 1,012 minutes of play, Carroll made 19 tackles, won over 66 percent aerial duels and led the team in clearances.

The 26-year-old Michigan native has been a consistent presence in the Championship since he made his debut for the New York Red Bulls II in the 2016 season. Carroll was named to the Championship’s All-League Second Team as he helped New York claim both the Championship’s Regular Season Title and the USL Championship Final in his rookie season.

Since then, Carroll has also competed in the Championship for Orlando City B and Reno 1868 FC, helping the latter to back-to-back postseason appearances in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Overall, Carroll has made 118 appearances in the Championship for his career and is closing in on 10,000 minutes of action in the league.

Carroll joins fellow returners Mark Segbers and Dan Metzger on Memphis’s 2021 roster.
