OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots announced on Wednesday the club had signed Curaçao international Zeus de la Paz, pending league and federation approval.

De la Paz is the second goalkeeper signed by Oakland this offseason, joining Ben Beaury. A native of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, De la Paz is a product of the PSV Eindhoven Academy, and competed for the Dutch National Team at the U16 and U18 levels. He subsequently elected to compete internationally for Curaçao and made his debut the country in 2015, making two appearances in FIFA World Cup Qualifying. In 2019 he was named to Curaçao’s squad for the Concacaf Gold Cup.

“We are delighted for Zeus to join the team,” said Roots Technical Director Jordan Ferrell. “The experience he’s gained in Europe and North America will be vital in building a strong, stingy defense quickly in our first year together.”

De La Paz most recently competed professionally for Oldham Athletic in England’s EFL League Two, where he made 26 appearances in the league in addition to competing in the FA Cup and EFL Trophy. He has also previously played in the United States for the Cincinnati Dutch Lions of USL League Two.
