SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC announced on Tuesday it had acquired goalkeeper Trey Muse on loan from Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer, pending league and federation approval.

“We’ve been extremely fortunate to have three top-class goalkeepers represent SD Loyal in our short history,” said SD Loyal EVP of Soccer Operations and First Team Manager Landon Donovan. “Trey will continue that excellence and give us the ability to compete for trophies in 2021. We are excited to have him join our club.”

Muse signed with the Sounders as a Homegrown Player ahead of the 2019 season and made 22 appearances in the USL Championship for Tacoma Defiance in his rookie season. The 21-year-old’s season was marked by a remarkable 13-save performance against New Mexico United that tied the Championship’s single-game record for saves, while Muse finished with 97 saves for the season.

“I am so excited to be joining the club in their second season,” said Muse. “I’m looking forward to building on the progress that was made last year, and work to bring a championship to San Diego.”

Prior to joining the professional ranks, Muse was a standout at Indiana University, where he was a collegiate All-American and National Champion. Muse conceded just 19 goals in 49 starts over two NCAA seasons, accumulating a 38-4-7 record. Additionally, Muse also appeared internationally for the United States U-18 and U-20 Men’s National Teams.
