Jadama returns for second stint in Tulsa; Coronado makes move to Energy FC

New Oakland Roots SC signing Jeremy Bokila has made 20 appearances for the Democratic Republic of Congo in his career.

OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Thursday it had signed Democratic Republic of the Congo National Team forward Jeremy Bokila, pending league and federation approval.

Bokila has made 20 appearances for his country during his career, featuring most prominently during the 2015 African Cup of Nations. Bokila scored twice in the tournament, including one of the goals in a 4-2 comeback victory in the Quarterfinals against the Republic of Congo that sent the side to the Semifinals for the first time since 1998.

“We are very excited to welcome a player with Jeremy’s experience to Oakland,” said Roots Technical Director Jordan Ferrell. “He has scored goals all around the world and adds a dimension to our attack that will help us hit the ground running in 2021.”

Bokila comes from a soccer family, having a dad who was on three occasions the leading scorer in the Belgian league and multiple other siblings who played professionally as well. Bokila got his start at ZSV Zelos academy before moving to the Netherlands to play in the AGOVV Apeldoorn Academy. He would go on to play 97 times for Apeldoorn while notching 31 goals.

Bokila’s career has included stops in the Netherlands, Belgium, Romania, Russia and China among others. Leading the line at every stop, Bokila most recently spent time in Turkey, where he competed for Ankara Keçiörengücü SK.

Modou Jadama Set for Second Stint in Tulsa

FC Tulsa announced on Thursday it had signed defender Modou “Mo” Jadama for the 2021 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval.

Jadama was a key member of the 2017 Tulsa Roughnecks FC squad that advanced to the USL Championship Playoffs. Jadama was a mainstay on the backline, starting 28 of his 30 total appearances for the club while recording one goal and recorded four assists for the club.

“It means a lot to sign with Tulsa,” said Jadama. “I’ve been following the team, and they’ve really done something. I feel motivated more than anything to be back again.”

Jadama’s performances for Tulsa during the 2017 season drew the attention of MLS clubs, and he signed with the Portland Timbers and split time between the senior squad and Timbers 2 in the USL Championship over the next two seasons. Jadama made 45 appearances, often serving as the club’s captain while with Portland Timbers 2. He made his MLS debut on June 10, 2018 against Sporting Kansas City when he and the Timbers kept a clean sheet.

In 2020, Jadama played in his hometown of Atlanta, signing with Atlanta United 2 in the Championship. He was appointed captain and played every minute of all 16 regular season matches for ATL UTD 2.

“Mo Jadama is a player that I’m very familiar with from his time with us [in 2017],” said FC Tulsa head coach Michael Nsien. “I have been able to follow Mo closely from his time in both Portland and Atlanta. Mo has all the attributes I’d like for a central defender, clean with passing using both feet, strong in the air attacking and defending, a great communicator, and reads situations early. He has the physical capabilities to match up with big or athletic strikers. With Mo back in Tulsa, we know we have another top player with us that will fight for the team.”

Energy FC Adds Robert Coronado to Back Line

OKC Energy FC announced on Thursday it had signed defender Robert Coronado, pending league and federation approval. Coronado spent the past two seasons with Rio Grande Valley FC of the USL Championship, scoring one goal and recording five assists in 33 appearances. During the 2020 season, Coronado won 100% of his tackles, completed 79.9% of his passes and led RGV with 556 passes as a left back.

“Robert has an interesting mix of qualities that I like which come from his background in the game,” said Energy FC Head Coach John Pascarella. “He started as a central midfielder and is a connector type of player with a good range of pass, but now he’s adapted as a pro to play left back. Those defensive qualities, as well as being able to join the attack, will be big for us.

“Robert also gives us more balance. Him being naturally left footed gives us the opportunity to attack from both sides with both fullbacks, so we can do interesting things with our interior attackers.”

A native of La Habra, Calif., Coronado graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2018 after a successful four-year playing career. While in college, the 24-year-old appeared for USL League Two clubs FC Golden State Force and Orange County SC U-23.
