2019 Championship Final-winner latest new arrival for SD Loyal’s second season

SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC added another new face to its squad on Monday with the signing of midfielder Jack Blake, pending league and federation approval. Blake arrived in San Diego after spending the past two-and-a-half seasons with Real Monarch SLC, where he captained the side to victory in the 2019 USL Championship Final.

Blake joined the Monarchs midway through the 2018 season after starting the season with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and soon established himself as a centerpiece in the club’s lineup with 17 appearances. The following year he put together a stellar regular-season campaign with eight goals and one assist in 28 appearances for the Monarchs.

The 26-year-old then scored twice in the Championship Playoffs in victories against Orange County SC and Phoenix Rising FC before captaining the Monarchs to a 3-1 victory against Louisville City FC in the Championship Final.

“Jack is one of the best midfielders in all of USL,” said SD Loyal EVP of Soccer Operations and First Team Manager Landon Donovan. “He is a proven winner and has lifted a trophy in this league. Furthermore, he's a great young man and a terrific leader and we are thrilled to have him join our club.”

A native of Nottingham, England, Blake came through the youth academy of Nottingham Forest and signed professionally with the club in 2012. After being released at the end of the 2015 season he set his sights on the United States and joined Minnesota United FC in 2016. The following year he linked up with current El Paso Locomotive FC Head Coach Mark Lowry at Jacksonville Armada FC, and had a career-best campaign with 10 goals in 27 appearances before joining the Rowdies prior to the 2018 Championship season.

“I am delighted to be part of this ambitious organization that has built a strong culture and identity in such a short period of time,” said Blake. “I can’t wait to meet everyone at the club, all the fans and play in front of the supporters group, The Locals. I’m also looking forward to playing some entertaining football with this talented group of players and staff. Let’s bring a championship home to this incredible city!”
