Two-time USL Championship Final-winner heads west to join United for 2021 season

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Monday the signing of two-time USL Championship Final-winner Ilija Ilic for the 2021 Championship season, pending league and federation approval. Ilic is the first new addition to United’s squad for its third season in the league.

Ilic claimed Championship titles with Louisville City FC in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. A former standout at Young Harris College and in USL League Two for the Ocala Stampede, Ilic joined Louisville ahead of its inaugural season in 2015 for his first professional campaign and made 75 regular-season appearances across four seasons for the club. His final season for LouCity proved his most productive as he recorded 11 goals and 10 assists in 28 appearances, joining an exclusive club of players to have recorded double-digit goals and assists in the same campaign.

For the past two seasons Ilic has featured for Indy Eleven, where he helped the side reach the Eastern Conference Final of the 2019 Championship Playoffs. For his career, the native of Belgrade, Serbia has recorded 105 regular-season appearances and notched 19 goals and 19 assists in the Championship.
