New signing has made five appearances previously for La Selecta ahead of exhibition in Fort Lauderdale

New FC Tulsa signing Joaquin Rivas has made five appearances for his native El Salvador ahead of next week's exhibition against the United States in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

New FC Tulsa signing Joaquin Rivas has been named in the El Salvador squad that will face the United States Men’s National Team next Wednesday night at Inter Miami CF Stadium.

The 28-year-old native of Santa Ana, El Salvador has made five appearances previously for La Selecta in his career, with his lone goal coming in an exhibition against Haiti in 2018.

“Getting called up and representing my country is always an honor,” Rivas said in a statement posted by FC Tulsa to social media. “It is two different levels of pressure when playing for your club team and nation. Playing against the United States will be very challenging even though they are a very young squad. I’ve always looked forward to playing against them since I was a boy.”

Two other players with Championship experience were also named to the squad, with current Houston Dynamo midfielder Darwin Ceren – who previously played in the league for Orlando City SC – and Portland Timbers midfielder Andres Flores also named in the squad.

The U.S. squad currently includes 12 players with Championship experience following the withdrawl of Frankie Amaya on Tuesday, with 2018 Young Player of the Year Efrain Alvarez and 2019 USL Championship Final-winner David Ochoa among the first-time call-ups to the squad.
