Reflex save against Miami FC earns Charleston shot-stopper second consecutive year-end award

TAMPA, Fla. – After returning from a loan spell overseas midway through the 2020 Championship season, Charleston Battery goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky showed once again why he’s become such a favorite in the Holy City, recording 25 saves and four shutouts in nine appearances for the side.

On Monday, the Battery’s fans delivered Kuzminsky a reward for his work as for a second consecutive year he claimed the Championship’s Fans’ Choice Save of the Year award, defeating Sporting Kansas City II’s Brooks Thompson in the Final round of the bracket.

The 26-year-old produced an outstanding denial in the Battery’s late-season visit to face Miami FC on September 30 to earn the award as the hosts created a chance that Jamaican international Romario Williams fired powerfully on goal from near the penalty spot. Kuzminsky reacted perfectly, palming the shot over the crossbar to safety.

Kuzminsky earned 70 percent of the vote in the Final to claim the award ahead of Thompson in the Final.
