New Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC signing Jose Francisco Torres made 26 appearances for the United States, including competing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former United States Men’s National Team midfielder Jose Francisco Torres was revealed as the newest signing for Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Wednesday as the club continues to build its squad for the 2021 USL Championship season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

“I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and for the season to start winning games,” said Torres.

Torres has spent his entire career playing in Liga MX, competing for Pachuca, Tigres UANL, and Puebla and has recorded more than 300 appearances in his career. The 33-year-old has won Liga MX four times in addition to two CONCACAF Champions Cup titles, one Copa Sudamericana title, one CONCACAF Champions League title, and one Copa MX.

A native of Longview, Texas, Torres made 26 appearances for the United States Men's National Team, including starting a World Cup group stage game against Slovenia in Johannesburg, South Africa on June 18, 2010. Torres was also a member of the U.S. squad that took second place in the 2009 Confederations Cup and the U.S. national team that won the 2013 Gold Cup.

“José is not only experienced at the highest levels of the game, he is an experienced winner at the highest levels of the game,” said Switchbacks General Manager Brian Crookham. “He brings exceptional talent to the group and is an incredible human being that fits our culture. His signing is a major step forward for the club as we look to create a competitive and entertaining product.”

Torres will become the latest former United States international to compete in the Championship, joining the likes of Tim Howard (Memphis 901 FC), Rubio Rubin (San Diego Loyal SC) and Jerome Kiesewetter (El Paso Locomotive FC), all of whom competed in the league over the past two seasons.
