Multiple covered persons positive for COVID-19; points-per-game model to be applied to all teams

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced today that, due to the combination of multiple covered persons in the Loudoun United FC organization testing positive for COVID-19 and the lack of rescheduling windows available in advance of the 2020 Championship playoffs, the club’s remaining three matches against the Charleston Battery, New York Red Bulls II and North Carolina FC have been cancelled.

When a single team cannot play its full 16 game schedule, the points per game model voted on by the USL Championship Board of Governors will be applied to the remaining matches unable to be played.

The league will continue to work with the Competition Strategy Committee on any situations that directly impact playoff qualification or playoff seeding.

For the first time in league history, the Championship Final will air live on ESPN on Sunday, November 1, as announced on Wednesday, September 23.
