TULSA – The Group D playoff race runs right through Tulsa, Oklahoma as FC Tulsa hosts San Antonio FC on Saturday night at ONEOK Field for a chance to keep pace for second place, presented by Arvest. Coming off a heartbreaking draw against in-state rivals OKC Energy FC, FC Tulsa looks to get back to winning against a San Antonio team that currently holds the best record in the USL Championship. 

FC Tulsa is trying to keep pace in the Group D standings with Austin Bold FC, who earned a 4-0 victory on Tuesday night against Sporting KC II. With that win, Austin jumped Tulsa for the final playoff spot and sits two points ahead with one more match played. With its match-in-hand, FC Tulsa still controls its own destiny and would clinch a playoff spot with wins in its remaining 2020 matches.

Scouting San Antonio FC
San Antonio FC comes into the match having secured its place in the USL Championship Playoffs as the first seed in Group D. SAFC also has the best record in USL Championship at 10-1-3 and could clinch the No. 1 overall seed with wins in its final two matches. That would mean SAFC wouldn’t have to leave the comforts of the Alamo City throughout its playoff run. 

Coming off a 2-0 victory against OKC Energy FC on Saturday, San Antonio finished the season unbeaten at home, and its remaining two matches on the road hold major playoff implications for their opponents as they travel to Tulsa and Austin to finish the regular season. 

FC Tulsa has been shutout in only two matches this season, both coming at the hands of San Antonio. This is largely due to goalkeeper Matthew Cardone, who is top five in the Golden Glove race and stands behind a defense with seven clean sheets on the season. San Antonio’s offense has been nearly as productive as its defense, ranking fourth in the USL Championship in total goals this season at 29.

Storylines to Watch
Hispanic Heritage Night – Saturday’s match will feature a live performance of the local band “Grupo Soniak” before kickoff, food trucks outside the gates of the stadium, local vendors in the concourse, and more. After the Group D showdown between Tulsa and San Antonio, fans can stick around to catch a match between two teams in the local Hispanic league La Independencia La Liga on the pitch at ONEOK Field. 

Fight for the playoffs – Three matches to play, and Austin Bold leads FC Tulsa by two points in Group D. FC Tulsa controls their own destiny, with a magic number of 12. FC Tulsa needs a win to stay in second place in the group. Anything else would put Austin Bold FC back in the driver’s seat, and Tulsa would need Bold to drop points to make the postseason.

Suárez still streaking - Darío Suárez cannot be stopped. With a goal against OKC, he has extended his streak to six goals in four matches. Suárez has scored eight goals in 2020, placing him in the top 10 goalscorers in the USL Championship.
