Forward becomes 10th player to reach 50 regular season goals with brace in 4-1 victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Cameron Lancaster scored twice to become the 10th player in the Championship’s history to reach 50 regular season goals as he led Louisville City FC to a 4-1 victory against Memphis 901 FC on Saturday night at Lynn Family Stadium. The victory moved LouCity seven points clear at the top of Group E as the side extended its undefeated streak to nine games.

Entering on a three-game winning streak, LouCity twice threatened early as Memphis goalkeeper Jimmy Hague was called on to deny a low shot from Paolo DelPiccolo in the sixth minute before Corben Bone flashed a shot just high and wide of the top-left corner of the net from 25 yards four minutes later.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 14th minute, though, as Lancaster bagged his first of the night. The English forward began the move, springing Brian Ownby forward into the right channel on a counterattack, and after Ownby slowed as he approached the top of the penalty area he delivered a lateral pass to his left that Lancaster arrived to finish with a first-time shot.

Ten minute later, Ownby added a goal of his own as he retrieved a ball sent wide on the right by Lancaster, cut past a defender at the top-right corner of the penalty area and then sent a beautiful curling finish with his left foot into the top-left corner of the net past the diving Hague.

Memphis began to get back into the game as the half progressed and a minute before the break the visitors pulled a goal back. A short pass for Keanu Marsh-Brown offered the English winger a chance to cut onto his right foot in the left side of the penalty area, and while LouCity goalkeeper Ben Lundt got down well to parry his effort the ball came to Cal Jennings, who calmly put home the rebound.

Marsh-Brown threatened to pull the visitors level four minutes into the second half, but his header at the back post off a curling cross from the right by Michael Reed deflected off the top-left angle of the goalframe and behind for a goal kick. LouCity then began to regain more control, however, and with 18 minutes to go Lancaster notched his second of the night. A low cross from the left by Antoine Hoppenot wasn’t cleanly claimed by Hague, and Lancaster reacted quickly to backheel home a finish with Hague still prone on the turf.

Louisville wrapped up the victory with six minutes to go as Bone found the net after Ownby played Luke Spencer into the right side of the penalty area, allowing Spencer to deliver a low cross that Bone put away confidently. Memphis almost pulled a goal back with two minutes to go as Brandon Allen’s header went just wide of the right post, but LouCity’s lead was never seriously threatened beyond that. Man of the Match
