SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC announced on Friday the acquisition of forward Miguel Berry on loan from Columbus Crew SC of Major League Soccer through the end of the 2020 USL Championship season.

A former standout at the University of San Diego, Berry was selected seventh overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by the Crew.

"I had the opportunity to watch Miguel play in person last year at USD and it was evident that he was ready to play at the next level,” said SD Loyal EVP of Soccer Operations and First Team Manager Landon Donovan. “He has all the tools to be a top-level striker in this country and we are fortunate to have another San Diegan join us as we push towards the playoffs."

Born in Barcelona and raised in San Diego’s Poway, Berry made 72 appearances and scored 38 goals and registered 16 assists in four seasons with the Toreros. He was named as a 2019 United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-America selection, while also being named the West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Year. Berry was also a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy.

“To play at Torero Stadium, my home for four years, again is a dream come true,” said Berry. “I’m extremely excited to be able to contribute to what the organization is building here in San Diego and I’m looking forward to being able to give back to this great city.”
