SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC struck early through Luis Solignac, built a lead throughout the first half and then handed a Championship debut to 16-year-old Leo Torres as part of a 4-0 victory against OKC Energy FC on Wednesday night at Toyota Field that extended SAFC’s undefeated start to the season.

It took only three minutes for the hosts to find the lead as Jose Gallegos claimed possession in OKC’s half after a good interception by Josh Yaro and pushed upfield. The San Antonio youngster played Cristian Parano into the right side of the penalty area, and while his shot took a deflection, Solignac was there to tap the redirection into an empty net after the chance had brought OKC’s CJ Cochran off his line to challenge Parano.

Energy FC almost replied in the 10th minute as a long ball forward by Cochran ran through to Jaime Chavez, who shouldered a defender off in a battle for the ball just outside the penalty area but hit the left post with the low shot that followed. San Antonio quickly found a second two minutes later, though, as a handball in the OKC penalty area gave the hosts a penalty kick and PC converted with a low shot to the left corner that just eluded Cochran.

Jonathan Brown also went close for OKC in the 20th minute as his free kick from left of center 25 yards out dipped just over the crossbar and onto the roof of the net. Three minutes before halftime, however, San Antonio made it three as Parano’s delivery from a free kick near the goal line on the right was knocked home at the back post by Mitchell Taintor.

Parano almost added a goal to his assist eight minutes after the halftime break with a shot from 25 yards that flashed just wide of the left post, but in the 67th minute, Gonzalo Di Renzo sent a pass forward to Gallegos, who cut past a defender in the right side of the penalty area and squared a pass back to Di Renzo for a first-time finish into the net.

Five minutes later, Gallegos had seen his last action of the night as he was substituted for fellow SAFC Pro Academy graduate Torres. The youngest signing in the Championship’s history when he joined SAFC on a professional deal last year aged 15 years and 23 days old, Torres made his first league appearance for the club and helped it see out another convincing victory.
