Former Memphis playmaker joins Tampa Bay for remainder of 2020 after stint in Poland

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced on Wednesday the club had signed midfielder Adam Najem to a contract for the remainder of the 2020 USL Championship Season. Per club policy, further contract details were not disclosed.

“I’m thrilled to be part of this organization, as I have heard a lot of great things about the club from my brother,” said Najem. “From the players, to the staff, to the fans, everything is truly top quality and is one of the best environments in the country. I am excited to get to work and help in any way I can.”

Najem, 25, recently spent time playing for the Polish I Liga team, Wigry Suwalki. From 2017-2019, prior to joining Wigry Suwalki, Najem played in the USL Championship with Bethlehem Steel FC and Memphis 901 FC and made 66 appearances during that time. He has a total of nine goals and 13 assists during his Championship career. Najem has also made appearances for the Philadelphia Union of MLS and with the Afghanistan National Team.

“It is very unusual for a player of Adam’s quality to become available at this stage of the season, so we are delighted to secure his signature,” said Rowdies Head Coach and Technical Director Neill Collins. “I have to thank the owners and Lee for allowing us to make this move. Adam is a very technical player that makes things happen in the last third, we are really looking forward to seeing Adam play for us in the coming weeks.”

Najem will wear number 19 and is the younger brother of former Rowdies Defender, David Najem, who played with the Rowdies in 2018 and 2019 before joining New Mexico United in 2020.
