Canadian forward strikes third goal of season in Eleven’s return to action

INDIANAPOLIS – Tyler Pasher picked up where he left off with the opening goal as Indy Eleven earned a 2-0 victory against Saint Louis FC at Lucas Oil Stadium to make it two wins from two to start the 2020 season on Saturday night.

Saint Louis had the first chance of the game as Russell Cicerone was unable to get full purchase on a finish off a cross by Paris Gee from the right, but then Eleven began to control more of the tempo. Defender Paddy Barrett forced an awkward save from STLFC goalkeeper Kyle Morton with a long-range strike that was parried wide of the left post, while Tyler Pasher also fired just over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area in the 25th minute.

Pasher came inches from putting the Eleven in front 11 minutes before halftime as he drove into the left side of the penalty area and rattled a shot off the right post, and moments later he almost found space in behind the defense by had a low shot saved by Morton. Saint Louis’ goalkeeper came up big once more as Pasher continued to threaten, with Morton making a big one-on-one save five minutes before halftime.

The Canadian striker wouldn’t be denied seven minutes into the second half, however, as he took an angled pass into the left side of the penalty area, created space for a left-footed shot and squeezed a finish past Morton into the right corner. Pasher almost created a second for Nick Moon midway through the second half, only for the Indy newcomer to send his finish over the crossbar.

The Eleven put the game away with 11 minutes to go, however, as Neveal Hackshaw found space at the back post on a free kick from the right by Ayoze and headed home low into the opposite corner of the net.
