MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis 901 FC was announced in Group G along with Birmingham Legion, Charlotte Independence and North Carolina FC, as a part of the USL’s return to play.

Within the new season format, teams are separated into eight regionalized groups and will play a total of 16 matches, including matches played before the suspension of play on March 12.

“This group will be great for our club, our fans and our supporters as we form strong regional rivalries with these teams,” 901 FC President Craig Unger said. “We are excited to see our full schedule and return to the pitch.”

As it stands, 901 FC will play each team within their four-team group four times. They will then play three matches against teams outside of their group. The March 7 loss against Indy will count as the 16th match.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the 2020 USL Championship Playoffs.

The resumption of the 2020 schedule is anticipated to begin on the weekend of July 11, and 901 FC’s 15 remaining regular-season matches will be played within 13 weeks ending the weekend of October 2-4. The release of the full schedule with dates and times is expected in the coming weeks.

The USL resumption of play will follow the health and safety protocols developed through the consultation of leading medical experts around the country. The Return to Play Protocols cover social distancing, testing, screening, sanitization and more. The determination of fans returning to AutoZone Park and venue-specific protocols have not been announced.

“We are working very closely with both Shelby County Health Department and the City of Memphis to design plans and protocols to ensure the safety of our players, fans and staff,” Unger said. “We thank everyone for their patience. The health and safety of our community is our top priority.”
