Announcement of return to play date in July brings end to second eCup initiative

TAMPA, Fla. – Rio Grande Valley FC has claimed the USL eCup: FIFA20 Edition, sitting on top of the overall standings with 3,000 points to take the title ahead of the second-place New York Red Bulls II (2,550pts) and third-place Saint Louis FC (1,700pts).

With the announcement of a provisional return to play date in the Championship and start date in League One, the United Soccer League today announced the completion of the tournament. This brings an end to the month-long competition which pitted a number of Championship and League One clubs against each other as national teams in a unique promotion and relegation style divisional bracket.

“We are extremely grateful to the participating clubs for their drive and commitment to making the tournament a success,” said USL SVP of Digital, Emerging Technology & Strategy Lizzie Seedhouse. “Both versions of the eCup were new ventures for us and our teams and now we are collectively looking forward to shifting our excitement and focus back on the 2020 seasons in the Championship and League One.”

The Toros claimed victory in the Division A bracket on two out of three occasions, while also winning the initial bracket for placement to give them maximum points as well. Their victory in the Division A Final against the Red Bulls II to conclude Week 4 proved decisive, as a Red Bulls II victory in that same game would have left New York on top of the standings to conclude the event.

The Championship has set a provisional return to play date of July 11, while League One has set a provisional start of season date of July 18. For more information regarding both leagues’ status, visit USLChampionship.com and USLLeagueOne.com.
