USL eCup: FIFA 20 Edition – Power Rankings, Week 4

Toros poised for ultimate victory, and thanks to bracket could claim it this week

Two weeks remain in the USL eCup: FIFA20 Edition, and we’re not only down to five teams that can claim outright victory in the points standings, but entering a week in which Rio Grande Valley FC could claim victory with a week to spare.

The reason for that? This week’s Division A bracket, which has lined up a potential Quarterfinal between the second-place New York Red Bulls II and third-place Saint Louis FC, ensuring that one of those two sides will come away from the week without putting points on the board.

If the side to go scoreless happens to be New York – now 450 points back – then the Toros would simply need to reach the final, where they’d pick up a minimum of 750 points to reach 3,750 for the tournament, and put themselves more than 1,000 points clear of any rival, even if STLFC should claim victory in Division A this week.

Victory would be all the Toros deserve. The No. 1 team in the eCup Power Rankings has won three of four brackets in the tournament, maximizing its opportunity with Brazil in a way that others with high-powered squads have been unable. The only question now is whether anyone can stand in the way of RGVFC’s coronation.

Things get back underway on Monday night with Division C in action, with Divisions A and B getting underway on Tuesday. Check out the schedule for all the action on Twitch here

Summary

1 Rio Grande Valley FC
Brazil
Charity: Amigos Del Valle

Last Week: 1
Juan Chavez stepped in to take the controls for the Toros in Week 4 and barely skipped a beat. An emphatic victory against the Red Bulls II to close out the week was impressive.
2 New York Red Bulls II
Chile
Charity: Wings For Life

Last Week: 2
For the first time this tournament, Mike LaBelle couldn’t rise to the occasion. That means New York is still solidly in second but is going to need the Toros to slip up majorly to have a chance at the title.
3 Union Omaha
Norway
Charity: Omaha Foundation
3
Last Week: 6
Los Buhos pulled off a couple of great wins against Pittsburgh and Saint Louis to reach the Division A Semifinals for the first time.
4 Austin Bold FC
Italy
Charity: Central Texas Food Bank

Last Week: 4
Bold FC is still technically alive, but the points left on the table the past two weeks as it sent Julien Llerena into battle are looking very important now.
5 Saint Louis FC
France
Charity: STL Area Food Bank
2
Last Week: 3
Missing out on points in Week 4 was a massive blow to STLFC’s overall chances, but a showdown with New York if it gets past El Paso on Tuesday opens the door to moving second.
6 Greenville Triumph SC
Poland
Charity: United Way of Greenville County
1
Last Week: 7
Greenville is the epitome of a side treading water. Always keeps its place in Division A each week, but never advances further, making it a good team with a small point total.
7 Hartford Athletic
Scotland
Charity: Foodshare
1
Last Week: 8
The Athletic stopped their slide last week, but again get the pressure of potential relegation on Tuesday against the newly-promoted New England Revolution II.
8 FC Tucson
Czech Republic
Charity: United Way - Tucson
6
Last Week: 14
Massive win to stick in Division A by defeating OKC Energy FC, and we’re a fan of the sharp but fair Twitter accounts of the club’s contests throughout.
9 New England Revolution II
Russia
Charity: Revolution Charitable Foundation
3
Last Week: 12
The Revolution II got delivered back to Division A by John Oliveira. Now they have to make it stick but will have a chance against Hartford on Tuesday.
10 OKC Energy FC
Portugal
Charity: Energy Assist Foundation
5
Last Week: 5
Energy FC not only fell out of a chance at the overall title that appeared to be there two weeks ago, it’s now got to battle out of Division B this week.
11 El Paso Locomotive FC
Argentina
Charity: El Pasoans Fighting Hunger
5
Last Week: 16
Back into Division A this week for Locomotive FC but it’s got a massive test first up against a Saint Louis FC side that has to win this week’s bracket to have a chance at the overall title.
12 Tampa Bay Rowdies
Colombia
Charity: Feeding Tampa Bay
1
Last Week: 11
The Rowdies came so close to holding onto their place in Division A before falling in extra time to Hartford. I’m expecting them to rebound back into Division A for one final flourish next week.
13 Phoenix Rising FC
Netherlands
Charity: Local First Arizona
4
Last Week: 9
If there was an indicator of how one bad game can undo a great week of work, Phoenix’s 4-0 loss to Greenville was it. Back to Division B to try and pick up the pieces again.
14 Charleston Battery
Greece
Charity: MUSC Foundation
1
Last Week: 15
The Battery were engaged in a series of tight contests throughout Week 4, but it got them promotion back to Division A and a reasonable matchup with FC Tucson to kick off.
15 Sacramento Republic FC
Mexico
Charity: Raley's Food for Families
2
Last Week: 13
Republic FC has been the prototypical yo-yo team, up in Weeks 2 and 4, back down in Week 3. Can it break the trend this week by beating Greenville Triumph SC to stay in Division A?
16 Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC
Belgium
Charity: Pittsburgh Food Bank
6
Last Week: 10
Sure, Omaha had a great week. That doesn’t mean with a team like Belgium anyone should be getting stuck with the 7-1 defeat the Hounds got handed.
17 The Miami FC
England
Charity: Communities in Schools - Miami

Last Week: 17
How frustrating was Week 4 for Miami? It looked dominant in a 5-0 win against Memphis 901 FC, and then just couldn’t connect in a 1-0 defeat to the Charleston Battery. It’s enough to make you toss a controller across the room.
18 Indy Eleven
Côte D’Ivoire
Charity: Community Health Network Foundation
1
Last Week: 18
Indy solidified its position in Division B once again but wasn’t able to crack into the promotion positions. Solid side, but unfortunately nothing more.
19 Las Vegas Lights FC
Uruguay
Charity: Mayor's Fund of Las Vegas

Last Week: 19
Lights FC can be very good, as evidenced by its 5-1 victory against Louisville last week. It also has the propensity to be very inconsistent, as evidence by its 5-1 defeat against El Paso the following night.
20 Charlotte Independence
Germany
Charity: Hemby Children's Hospital

Last Week: 20
The Independence finally put together a solid performance with Germany to get past FC Tulsa and the United States, but that was the extent of their progress thanks to the Revolution II.
21 Philadelphia Union II
Spain
Charity: City Team - Chester
6
Last Week: 27
The Union II did what they were supposed to with Spain in winning Division C, but the level of performance doesn’t inspire confidence their stay in the middle tier will be a long one.
22 Orange County SC
Cameroon
Charity: OCSC Community Foundation
8
Last Week: 30
OCSC finally broke through and reached the Division C Final, but it’s going to need to be much better to get past the higher level of competition this week.
23 LA Galaxy II
Sweden
Charity: Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

Last Week: 23
Los Dos might have gotten trucked by the Union II, but at least they rebounded well to earn victory to close out Week 4 with a win in Division C’s Third-Place Game.
24 North Carolina FC
Turkey
Charity: NCFC Youth Financial Aid Fund
2
Last Week: 26
NCFC had the narrowest defeat of any team relegated to Division C last week. Does that mean they’re any good? Probably not.
25 Real Monarchs SLC
Switzerland
Charity: RSL Foundation
1
Last Week: 24
The Monarchs finally got a win, albeit in extra time against winless Loudoun United FC. Then they reverted to form in back-to-back defeats where they were shut out in both contests.
26 FC Tulsa
United States
Charity: Tulsa Area United Way
4
Last Week: 22
Back to Division C again after defeat to the Independence, but at least the club’s popularity nationwide has never been higher.
27 Louisville City FC
Wales
Charity: One Louisville COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund
6
Last Week: 21
Louisville did so well to maximize what it got out of Wales in Week 3, it was a serious disappointment to see the side go down so poorly to Las Vegas in a 5-1 defeat last week.
28 Memphis 901 FC
Austria
Charity: Mid South Food Bank
3
Last Week: 25
The draw against Miami wasn’t the kindest Memphis could have received. It’s still no excuse for the 5-0 drubbing it received.
29 Birmingham Legion FC
Ireland
Charity: Birmingham Strong Fund
1
Last Week: 28
Legion FC just hasn’t been able to click into gear consistently enough, the latest evidence being held scoreless in a game that was decided in extra time against Orange County.
30 Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC
Paraguay
Charity: Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado
1
Last Week: 29
The Switchbacks are still looking for their first win of the tournament after being edge out by the Galaxy II last week.
31 Loudoun United FC
Denmark
Charity: Tourism & Hospitality Relief Fund
1
Last Week: 32
So close, and yet so far. Loudoun at least got to extra time against the Monarchs before being eliminated in Week 4.
32 Tacoma Defiance
Slovenia
Charity: Big Brothers, Big Sisters - Puget Sound
1
Last Week: 31
The Defiance are not showing much resistance at this point after a 4-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union II. Down to the basement you go.
