Remarkable second-half comeback highlighted action-filled clash at Taft Stadium

Welcome to the Classic Championship Game of the Day, where today we look back at a Western Conference contest from the 2019 regular season that saw OKC Energy FC play host to Reno 1868 FC at Taft Stadium.

Energy FC was in the 10th and final playoff position as action kicked off in Week 20 of the regular season but could have found itself in a better position if not for its most recent form. OKC had drawn five of its previous seven outings, three of which had come at home, a string of results that had left it in the middle of the playoff race but with a cluster of teams sitting within reach just below the playoff line. Finding a way to pick up all three points would provide a major boost to the side’s hopes of returning to the postseason.

Reno, meanwhile, was sitting six points ahead of its hosts in this midweek clash and had suffered only four defeats so far during the season. 1868 FC was riding a positive wave of momentum as it arrived in Oklahoma, too, having claimed victory in its last three outings during which time it had seen seven different players find the net. With six points separating it from Western Conference leader Phoenix Rising FC, Reno was looking to close the gap with a fourth consecutive victory.

The scene is set, so sit back, relax and enjoy a classic clash from the Championship’s history.
