It’s the final week of the competition, and eight teams are left. Who’s the favorite to claim it all?

So, the final week of the USL eCup: Rocket League Edition.

What a short, strange trip it has been. Especially if you’ve been following Devon Kerr’s commentary throughout.

But now, we’re down to the eight teams that through the group stage and the first knockout round have proven themselves game-in and game-out. We’ve been entertained by their acrobatic finishes, launching from on high to deliver detonations in their opponent’s goals, and just as impressed with the defensive prowess shown throughout.

But, as we asked after the opening round of games, is there anyone out there that can keep FC Tucson’s Trent Wieland from taking the title? We’ve got seven contests left to find out.

Summary

1 FC Tucson
Captain: Trent Wieland
Charity: Community Food Bank of Southern AZ
def. MAD (3-0)
Next: v. STL
Should Trent Wieland claim the title on Saturday, you must refer to him moving forward as El Magnifico.
2 San Antonio FC
Captain: Josh Richards
Charity: Spurs Give
def. PHX
(3-0)

Next: v. CHS
Josh Richards continued to rack up goals in the Round of 16, but that eight-save shutout in Game 3 against Phoenix Rising FC was just as impressive.
3 Union Omaha
Captain: Jake Mickleson
Charity: Omaha Foundation
def. RIC
(3-0)

Next: v. BHM
Wesley Mims capped off a great week for Los Buhos, who continue to do great work in their community through the launch of their inaugural home and away uniforms.
4 Tacoma Defiance
Captain: Josh Atencio
Charity: United Way of Pierce County
def. ATX
(3-0)

Next: v. PHI
There’s nothing that flashy about what Josh Atencio does, his eight-goal performances were his largest totals of the tournament, but he’s really good at finding victories.
5 Birmingham Legion FC
Captain: Patrick Glenn
Charity: Birmingham Strong Fund
def. IND
(3-0)

Next: v. OMA
On paper, there are two Quarterfinals matchups that stand out. After another great performance in the Round of 16, Legion FC’s Kaylor Hodges vs. Union Omaha’s Wesley Mims is one.
6 Charleston Battery
Captain: Mauro Cichero
Charity: MUSC COVID Emergency Fund
def. RNO (3-0)
Next: v. SA
Another sweep for Mauro Cichero, and another outing in which he put up big numbers offensively. His clash with San Antonio FC could be an epic battle.
7 Philadelphia Union II
Captain: Evan Slabicki
Charity: City Team - Chester
def. ELP
(3-1)

Next: v. TAC
Evan Slabicki wobbled a little bit in his win against El Paso Locomotive, but found a way through. Union II can’t afford to let Tacoma have the same chances, though.
8 Saint Louis FC
Captain: Keith Mayfield
Charity: STL Area Food Bank
def. LDN
(3-1)

Next: v. TUC
Keith Mayfield dropped a game for the first time in a contest in the Round of 16. He’ll need to find a big jump in level to challenge presumptive favorite FC Tucson on Tuesday night.
