Six-goal thriller produced late fireworks as Indy hosted Battery at Lucas Oil Stadium

Welcome to the Classic Championship Game of the Day, where today we go back to the 2018 regular season and a contest that saw a dramatic series of late twists as Indy Eleven played host to the Charleston Battery at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Eleven had gotten off to a solid start to their first season in the Championship, but by the end of May the club’s fortunes had taken a little bit of a dip. Winless in their last three outings, including a 4-1 road defeat against the New York Red Bulls II last time out, Indy had also been unceremoniously knocked out of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on the road by USL League Two side Mississippi Brilla and was looking to get back on track in front of its home fans.

The Battery, meanwhile, had gotten into a good rhythm after losing two of their first three games of the season and arrived at Lucas Oil Stadium on an eight-game undefeated streak. The side had been particularly good defensively throughout that stretch, not conceding more than a goal in any game and allowing only four goals overall as the defense led by goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky and defenders Taylor Mueller and Neveal Hackshaw proved solid.

The scene is set, so sit back, relax and enjoy a classic clash from the Championship’s history.
