Birmingham Legion FC’s Kaylor Hodges had to battle early but ended up taking a pair of comfortable victories against Forward Madison FC’s Brandon Eaton in their opening series (11-0, 14-1).

Legion FC scored only once in the opening two minutes of Game 1 as both sides fought to gain the upper hand, but a run of three goals in 24 seconds around the three-minute mark saw Hodges take control of the contest and then run away in the closing stages. That momentum carried into Game 2, where Birmingham scored twice in the opening 25 seconds, and while Madison pulled a goal back off the kickoff to make it 2-1, it took only nine seconds more for Legion FC to restore its two-goal advantage and pull away for victory.

FC Tulsa’s Reilly Maguire pulled away for a pair of solid victories (8-2, 10-0) against Memphis 901 FC’s Raul Gonzalez to set up a get battle for the top of the standings with Legion FC in the final game of Week 1.

Memphis got on the board early in Game 1, raising hopes for Gonzalez, but Tulsa quickly rallied and reeled off seven consecutive goals before 901 FC notched a late consolation. Both teams took a moment to get going on Game 2, but an outstanding finish 1:17 into the period put Tulsa on track, and after notching a second seven seconds later they were off to the races for a shutout win.
