HARTFORD, Conn. – As of last Monday night, what did Juventus’ Douglas Costa, NBC Sports’ Rebecca Lowe, Arsenal’s David Luiz and Men in Blazers’ Michael Davis all have in common?

The answer is that they’ve all been part of virtual training sessions led by Hartford Athletic Strength and Fitness Coach Lucas Kruel.

With help on social media from Lowe, Davies, Fox Sports’ Rob Stone and ESPN’s Fernando Palomo and Alba Galindo, the Athletic last week launched the Hartford Athletic Fitness Series Presented by Trinity Health of New England on the club’s Instagram Live feed.

The initiative is designed to help keep fans active, while also maintaining a sense of community through the digital sessions. The first edition of Kruel’s program – which requires no equipment - drew almost 1,000 viewers on Instagram Live either watching live or on the archived stream.

Among those were Lowe and Davies, who chirped at each other in the livestream’s comments during the course of the session.

Kruel is no stranger to taking his training sessions online. In addition to his work for the Athletic where he is a full-time assistant coach, he also works virtually with renowned international players including Costa, Luiz, Rafinha, Thiago Alcantara, Fred and others.

Hartford and its players – like many other Championship clubs – have been highly active in the digital realm as they await the chance to return to action at Dillon Stadium. Players like Alex Davey have been active on Twitch showing off their virtual soccer skills on FIFA20.

All the Athletic’s players – and who knows who else? – are taking part in the current online sessions, which run every Monday and Wednesday night at 6 p.m. ET.
