The final game of the 2018 regular season produced high-quality action between the LIPAFC rivals

Welcome to the Classic Championship Game of the Day, where today we dust off a recent edition of the Louisville Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest rivalry that saw Louisville City FC play host to Indy Eleven on the final day of the Championship’s 2018 regular season.

LouCity had already locked up the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference going into the contest but wanted to continue the momentum it had built on the back of five consecutive victories as the postseason approached under new Head Coach John Hackworth. The hosts had also yet to take victory against the Eleven in the regular season, falling 1-0 in their first meeting at Lucas Oil Stadium before a 2-2 draw midway through the season.

Indy, on the other hand, had plenty at stake as it arrived at Slugger Field. While assured of a playoff place after Louisville’s midweek victory against North Carolina FC four days earlier, the battle for seeding in the lower half of the playoff positions remained tight going into the final weekend of the season. Indy knew if it could take all three points, it would avoid a potential return trip to face its rivals the following weekend in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, but a defeat could leave it facing either LouCity or top seed FC Cincinnati with the season on the line.

The scene is set, so sit back, relax and enjoy a classic 90 minutes of Championship action.
