AUSTIN, Texas – Austin Bold FC announced on Tuesday the return of defender Gustavo Rissi to the club on loan from Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A team Cruzeiro Esporte Clube pending league and federation approval.

The 22-year-old spent a portion of the 2019 season on loan with Bold FC, making seven appearances and recording 660 minutes of action in the regular season and playoffs. Rissi tallied one goal in 2019, which came in his first match under Head Coach Marcelo Serrano against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on September 7.

“Having Gustavo back is an excellent asset for the program, he was a massive help for us towards the end of last season. We want to thank Cruzeiro for believing in us to keep developing him on American soil,” said Serrano. “He’s a player with great character and with experience in the youth levels of the Brazilian National Team, which makes this an amazing opportunity for us as well.”

Rissi started his playing career in the Fluminense FC youth system before joining Cruzeiro in 2014. While with Cruzeiro U-20s, Rissi won a national championship, and the Supercopa do Brasil. The defender was an unused substitute for five matches with the Cruzeiro senior team in 2018. The Sao Paulo native received seven call-ups for the Brazilian National Team U15 and U16 squads.
