Welcome to the Classic Championship Game of the Day, where today we revisit a top-four contest from the Eastern Conference between hosts Louisville City FC and the Charleston Battery, who were both looking to boost their position in the standings with less than 10 games remaining before the postseason arrived.
Second-place LouCity was looking to rebound from a stunning 4-1 home defeat against Toronto FC II in its last outing and had also suffered a 2-1 loss on the road against the Battery during the middle third of its campaign. The side did have the marksmanship of Cameron Lancaster to fall back on, though, as the English forward entered the contest tied for the league-lead with 16 goals.
The Battery, meanwhile, had moved into fourth place in the Eastern during a run of only one defeat in its previous 11 outings. Charleston had accumulated points consistently all season, recording 11 wins and 11 draws and suffering only four defeats as Trinidad & Tobago internationals Neveal Hackshaw and Ataulla Guerra had both had strong seasons.
The scene is set, so sit back, relax and enjoy a classic 90 minutes of Championship action.
