Update Return to Small Group Training (May 25, 2020)

The squad safely returned to small group, non-contact training on Monday following USL, City, and State protocols and with guidance from title partner Trinity Health of New England. Check it out here.

Update from the USL (May 5, 2020)

Operating under the guidance of local and state health authorities, the United Soccer League today announced a modification to the previously announced training moratorium that will allow Championship and League One clubs, at their option, to open outdoor fields for non-contact training in small groups as well as training rooms for player treatment.

Small group settings will be limited to up to four players, with no more than one athletic trainer and one member of a club’s technical staff allowed on each field during a session. Teams in areas where local and state recommendations for stay-at-home orders have not been lifted should not train or allow treatment that is prohibited by their jurisdiction. In addition, all clubs will notify the league of their plans to return to the team’s training facility prior to re-opening and training is voluntary for players.

The USL previously extended its training moratorium through May 15 for all of its professional clubs.

Update from the USL (April 30, 2020)

The United Soccer League provided additional updates today on how the ongoing COVID-19 crisis is affecting the 2020 USL Championship season. With approval of the Championship Board of Governors, the USL has extended its temporary suspension of the 2020 Championship season and will await further guidance and clarity from local, state and national health authorities before announcing a new earliest return to play date.

While the USL Championship has also extended their respective team training moratoriums through May 15, the league is also exploring scenarios that would allow for players to return to training facilities to conduct individual or small group work prior to May 15.

As things stand today, the USL is still in a position to reschedule all matches in both leagues affected by the COVID-19 crisis to date and will continue to receive guidance from public health experts, as well as a national medical task force comprised of other professional sports leagues and organizations from around the country. While a complete season remains the preferred outcome of any return to play scenario, a variety of alternative competitive formats in both the Championship and League One are also being explored as the USL continues to prioritize the health and wellness of everyone involved.

Update from the USL (March 18, 2020)

The United Soccer League announced today, following approval from the USL Championship’s Board of Governors, that the previously announced 30-day temporary suspension of play in the Championship will be extended to align with recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on restricting public gatherings of 50 or more people through Sunday, May 10th.

To every USL Championship supporter across the country, we want to thank you for your patience and understanding during these extraordinary circumstances. As always, your safety, health and wellness are our top priority. We will continue to monitor ongoing events, receive guidance from local, state and national health authorities, and participate in a national task force comprised of other professional sports leagues and organizations from around the country. We also want to extend our support and best wishes to all the individuals and communities who have been impacted by COVID-19.

We look forward to being back in action again soon.

Update from Hartford Athletic (March 11, 2020)

Hartford Athletic has announced that it is postponing its first two home matches on March 21st and April 4th. The matches will be rescheduled at a later date.

“In coordination with the Mayor’s office and in light of the Governor’s emergency declarations, we are postponing our home matches on March 21st and April 4th. Both matches will be rescheduled for later dates,” said Hartford Athletic Chairman Bruce Mandell. “As we continue to learn more about how this will affect our community, we have made this decision -- and will continue to make decisions -- with the best interest of our fans in mind. By delaying our first two home matches, we will use this time to continue to assess the situation and prepare for our first home match. We look forward to a full, robust, and exciting 2020 season for our fans.”

“Hartford Athletic is taking the right, proactive approach in light of the latest guidance from State officials and medical experts,” said Mayor Luke Bronin.  “We appreciate their ongoing cooperation and partnership as all of us work together to prioritize public health. We also want to remind everyone that the most effective things you can do to protect yourself are the simplest: wash your hands well, avoid handshakes, stay home if you’re sick, and pay attention to the news.”

Tickets for the March 21st and April 4th matches will be valid for their rescheduled dates. Hartford Athletic will provide updates to all fans and ticket holders as they become available.
