HERRIMAN, Utah – A pair of first-half goals by Cameron Lancaster led Louisville City FC to a 3-0 victory against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on the opening day of the 2020 Wasatch Winter Cup at the Zions Bank Training Center on Sunday night.

Lancaster struck twice in the opening 22 minutes, opening the scoring in the ninth minute when he took a pass from Magnus Rasmussen, turned and slotted it into the bottom-right corner of the goal past a diving attempt at a save by Switchbacks goalkeeper Sean Melvin.

Louisville almost doubled its lead within a minute, only for Lancaster to be ruled offside, but in the 22nd minute the 2018 USL Championship Golden Boot-winner found the net again. A quick series of passes saw offseason newcomer Corben Bone link up with Brian Ownby to provide Lancaster with the chance to finish.

Bone also went close to finding the net in the first half, being denied twice by Melvin with shots two minutes apart. Lancaster also had a chance to complete his hat trick 11 minutes into the second half, but narrowly missed the target before Louisville shifted lineups for the final half-hour.

The second lineup brought a third goal for LouCity, however, as Mo Thiam scored in the 90th minute to cap the scoring and leave the defending Eastern Conference title-holders on top of the standings at the end of the tournament’s first day.

REAL MONARCHS SLC 0, UNION OMAHA 0: Both sides threatened, but neither found a breakthrough in the opening game of the day as League One newcomer Union Omaha put on a solid opening display in the build-up to their inaugural season.

The best chances for both sides arrived in the second half. The Monarchs almost took the lead in the 72nd minute when recent signing Dayonn Harris found space to shoot but was denied by Omaha goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu. A minute before the end, Union almost stole all three points but Monarchs goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton was able to keep out an effort by former Real forward Juan Ignacio Mare to keep the contest level.
