PITTSBURGH (February 15, 2020) – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC fell to Penn State University, 2-0, on Saturday at Highmark Stadium in preseason action.

Penn State scored a goal at the end of the first half before tacking on another second-half tally for the victory. The Hounds now hold a 2-1-0 record this preseason.

“We had some good moments, but we didn’t create enough,” head coach Bob Lilley said. “We had more of the ball, we had more of the chances. They capitalized on a few chances and won a lot of loose balls. They were physical and did a good job making it hard for us and they were opportunistic. We need to be able to manage the game better.”

The Hounds had an opportunity to break onto the scoresheet first in the 14th minute. Kenardo Forbes lined up a free kick from just outside the penalty area, but his shot was blocked by the Penn State wall.

The Nittany Lions scored their first goal in the 45th minute off a counterattack. Able to free up space, a Lion tacked on a goal from inside of the penalty box.

Penn State scored its second goal of the game in the 78th minute. A pass in the 18-yard box landed at the feet of one Lion in the center before he slotted home the shot.

Riverhounds SC returns to preseason action this Wednesday, when it will battle the University of Pittsburgh. This match will kick off at 9 a.m. at Highmark Stadium. Preseason matches at Highmark Stadium are free to attend for the public.
