SAN DIEGO – San Diego Loyal SC announced on Saturday the addition of midfielder Carlos Alvarez, defender Jack Metcalf and goalkeeper Jake Fenlason for the club’s inaugural season in the USL Championship.

“The addition of Jack, Carlos, and Jake give us three more proven players heading into our inaugural season,” said SD Loyal EVP of Soccer Operations and First Team Manager, Landon Donovan. “They have tremendous quality on the field and will be great leaders in our locker room and within in our community.”

Previously the No. 2 pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Alvarez has made 113 appearances in the USL Championship, with previous stints at the Charlotte Independence, San Antonio FC, Orange County SC, Las Vegas Lights FC and most recently Loudoun United FC. The 29-year-old has recorded 16 goals and 16 assists in the league across the regular season and playoffs.

Fenlason, meanwhile, returns to his hometown after spending the past two seasons with Saint Louis FC. The 27-year-old has recorded 14 shutouts and 94 saves in 42 appearances over the past four seasons, having spent the first two years of his professional career with Orlando City B.

Metcalf was most recently the captain of ATL UTD 2, where he made 62 appearances over the past two seasons. The English 28-year-old also previously played in the Championship for the Charlotte Independence – where he was a teammate of Alvarez in the 2015 season – and has made 103 appearances overall in the league during his career.
