FRISCO, Texas – San Antonio FC’s newcomers made a good first impression in the club’s preseason opener as Gonzalo Di Renzo and Hayden Partain both found the net in a 5-1 victory against fellow USL Championship side OKC Energy FC at the Toyota Soccer Center on Saturday afternoon.
SAFC Academy standout Jose Gallegos also found the net for the side, while Omar Gordon scored late on for Energy FC.
Di Renzo opened the scoring in the seventh minute when he put home a first-time finish off a pass by another newcomer in Jesus Enriquez. SAFC doubled its lead 10 minutes later when Partain converted from the penalty spot after Blake Smith had been brought down in the penalty area.
Gallegos – who was one of five SAFC Academy and Elite Training Program players that appeared in the contest – added a third in the second half before a pair of trialists added to SAFC’s lead. Gordon then notched a consolation goal back late for Energy FC.
“For every session and every game, we have our tactical objectives and behavioral objectives,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “We feel strongly that we met the behavioral objective today, and we will continue to work on the tactical side, which is expected. All in all, it’s a good day and we will put it behind us and get back to work on Monday to continue building our identity.”
